Title: Broken Protocols 3.5 - A Charmin Marvin Christmas
Author: Dale Mayer
Rating: 5 out of 5 stars
This story was a big surprise! A charming, marvelous surprise. Here I was, expecting to read a Christmas story full of candy canes, Santas at the mall, gift wrapping, and mistletoe. Instead I find Dani and her tomcat, Charmin, transported two hundred years into the future, to a technology mecca where holidays, especially religious ones like Christmas, are outlawed.
Fortunately, Charmin is now able to talk, having gained an "enhancement" in the new world, but poor Dani is stuck at the elementary school level since her 21st century education is so far behind that of a child in the 23rd century. She yearns nostalgic for a simpler time, especially Christmas.
The two brothers she lives with have never known Christmas or any other holiday. When Dani's web searches draw suspicion from the government, and Charmin's big order of canned fish attract attention of the wrong kind, Dani's new boyfriend, Levi, decides to give Dani her best Christmas ever. Only, how is he going to do that when all records of Christmas have been erased?
Love, of course, will find a way, but not without a few road bumps. I thoroughly enjoyed Charmin's snark coupled with the sweet love between Dani and Levi, and the social awkwardness of boy genius, Milo, the originator of the time travel experiment.
Broken Protocols 3.5 is a delightful read and you'll want to go back and read the rest of the Broken Protocol series after you're done.

Great review! I'm one of the authors in this wonderful holiday boxed set, but I haven't had a chance to read Dale's story or the other 8 romances yet. I'll treat myself tonight and snuggle up with these holiday love stories!
ReplyDeleteThanks Marcia! I'm enjoying the stories myself. I wish I had more time to read the rest of the Broken Protocols, although it's on my list.
